Where are Moms Shopping This Holiday?

Dec 02, 2020

According to the National Retail Federation, 2020 holiday spending is predicted to increase by somewhere between 3.6% and 5.2%.

People might be feeling pandemic fatigue but they're soothing their sadness with some extra spending this year.

That's good news for local businesses that need a boost after a rough year.

But where are moms planning to spend all this money?

We asked moms across the country in November of 2020 what their holiday spending plans were.  And their answers reinforced what we've been seeing, the pandemic hasn't changed moms' desires to support their local businesses.

44% of moms say they'll shop in-store at their local businesses this season which is consistent with prior year's surveys.

WHAT ABOUT ONLINE?

Online shopping is expected to be huge this holiday for all types of businesses, local included.  26% of moms say they'll shop online from their local stores in 2020.

And while online shopping from big box stores like Amazon or Wal-Mart was the most popular way moms will shop this year, the percentage of moms selecting that option has decreased a few percentage points from several years ago.

What does this all mean for local business owners and marketers?  Moms are ready and willing to support your local business in the same or greater numbers than they have in past years.

The pandemic isn't stopping their spending. In fact, many businesses may experience a better than average holiday sales season.

So keep promoting your business, get your offers in order and make sure moms know how to find you online and off so you can finish 2020 strong.
